Development threatens village life and work

Hsa Keh village is a small fishing community – nothing more than a line of small bamboo houses with leaf roofing. Under a clear sky, three small wooden fishing boats glide onto the beach. A peaceful scene that now has a dark development cloud hanging over the villagers.

CNF hold public meeting following peace talks in Rangoon

The Chin National Front (CNF) met with civilians, religious leaders and Chin politicians following the 2nd Union level peace talks in Rangoon. The public meeting that took place at the Myanmar Institute Theological Hall on Dec.12 was intended to clarify the 27-points the rebel group signed with the government during the peace talks that took place from Dec.7-9.

SSA: Naypyitaw negotiator sticking his neck out

Speaking at a public meeting in Kengtung in order to urge people for more participation in the peace process, Brig Gen Pawng Kherh, Restoration Council of Shan State / Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA)’s chief negotiator, said if anyone were to be prosecuted with Section 17-1 (unlawful association) for assisting in the peace process, the first one should be his Naypyitaw counterpart U Aung Min.

Mandalay monks vow to protest every day

More than 1,000 Buddhist monks in Mandalay have vowed to continue demonstrating every day until the Burmese government meets their demands, including issuing an apology for the violent crackdown on monks and activists at the Monywa copper mine site on November 29.

ေတြ႔ဆံုေဆြးေႏြးပြဲ တက္ေရာက္ခဲ့သည့္ လူငယ္အဖြဲ႔မ်ားမွ ကိုယ္စားလွယ္အခ်ဳိ႕ ကရင္ျပည္နယ္၊ ဖားအံၿမိဳ႕ရွိ သုေမဓါရာမ ၾကားေတာရေက်ာင္းတြင္ လူငယ္အဖြဲ႔ေပါင္း (၂၇)ဖြဲ႔မွ ကိုယ္စား လွယ္ ၂၀၀ ခန္႔စုေပါင္း၍ ယခုရက္ပိုင္းအတြင္း “လူငယ္မ်ား ေတြ႔ဆံုေဆြးေႏြး ပြဲ” ေခါင္းစဥ္ျဖင့္ ေဆြးေႏြးပြဲတရပ္ က်င္းပ ခဲ့သည္။
