Heavy fighting between government troops and Kachin Independence Army (KIA) broke out before dawn today at Lajayang near the Laiza headquarters. More than fifty government soldiers and one Kachin resistance fighter were killed by noon, according to an unidentified KIA officer.
The Burma’s army have been sending hundreds of their troops to a remote region along the border with India since early December. Locals are growing concerned that the arrival of military reinforcements is a sign that heavy fighting with the Kachin Independence Army’s (KIA) Brigade-2 and Burma army will start soon.
